Client: Birmingham City University | Location: Birmingham

The Goal

  • Improve accessibility to waste disposal by installing bins on the ground floor
  • Identify space-efficient solutions to add more waste units in high-traffic areas

The Problem

  • There are no waste bins available on the ground floor
  • People have complained about having to walk too far to reach disposal points
  • Space constraints make it difficult to install additional waste units

The Solution

  • Unisort Climate Recycling Stations were installed throughout common areas and walkways to make recycling easy and accessible.
  • Each station includes waste streams for:
    – Plastic Bottles
    – Tins & Cans
    – General Waste
  • The stations feature colour-coded signage with clear imagery on the backboards for easy and engaging waste separation.
  • Apertures are also colour-coded, with a round hole for plastic bottles to guide correct use and reduce contamination.

Customer Feedback

The signage is very clear, and the look and style of the bins have been well received across the site

The waste stations are modern in design and appear professional

According to the cleaning contractor, there have been no issues with full or

overflowing bins
