The Goal

– To comply to the new Wales Legislation (April 2024)
– Boost recycling rate to 70%

The Problem

– No recycling stations with clear, engaging signage and waste stream aperture
– No specific waste streams or shaped apertures to drive behavioural change
– Recyclable items are in General Waste causing contamination
– Recycling rates at some sites were as low as 45%, well below the UK Government’s target of 70%

The Solution

To comply with new requirements, OCS opted for new multi-waste stream recycling stations, the Unisort Aspire Recycling Stations, to replace the old, inconsistent ones.

They collaborated with Unisort to create dual-language signage and ensure clear segregation instructions.

The new recycling stations also incorporate the Unisort continuous liner system reducing plastic usage and associated CO2 by 80%.

Recycling rates have reached an average of 64% after 3 months and continue to improve; we also collected and recycled all their old bins.
